Bulldogs win in second round of Four Rivers Tourney.

The play was far from sharp in weather that felt more winter-like than spring on Tuesday.

However, that didn’t keep the Rolla High School baseball team from scoring lots of runs.

Taking advantage of numerous walks and errors, the Bulldogs hammered Hermann 15-7 Tuesday in the second round of pool play in the Four Rivers Tournament on First Community National Bank Field at the Bray Sports Complex.

Rolla will host its pool’s games in the tournament finals on Saturday at FCNB Field. Rolla, 1-1 in pool play, will play at 9:30 a.m. Saturday against an opponent to be determined. Depending of they win or lose that game, the Bulldogs will play again at either 2 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

RHS, 3-1 overall, had its share of shoddy play in the field as well on Tuesday, committing four errors. However, the Bulldogs took advantage of the Hermann Bearcat miscues to plate a total of 11 runs over the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.

The game was close for a while. Rolla scored a single run in the bottom of the first. Each team then tallied one run in the second and two in the third.
Hermann scored four more runs in the top of the fourth to grab a 7-4 advantage.

However, the Bulldogs put things out of reach in the bottom of the fourth by erupting for seven runs. RHS had just four hits in the fourth but took advantage of a slew of Hermann errors and walks.

Rolla iced things - literally, it felt like - with another run in the fifth and three more in the sixth.

Junior Billy Brookshire set the tone at the plate for the Bulldogs, going 3-for-4. Also for Rolla, senior Alex Remillard had two hits and scored twice while junior Andy Satulla scored three runs and senior Seth Stevens two runs. Hermann issued Rolla eight walks.

Junior right-hander Dalton Turner was the starting and winning pitcher for Rolla, working four innings and allowing seven runs - four earned - and 10 hits while walking four and fanning three. Junior Brad Lohr finished up on the mound for Rolla, allowing one hit and one walk over three innings.
Hermann outhit Rolla 11-8.
