  • After an extended holiday break due to the weather, the Rolla High School wrestling team returned to the mat on Thursday and dropped a 58-9 dual meet to Jefferson City.
The meet had been scheduled for Wednesday but was backed up a day due to the weather.
It was the first action for the Jefferson City Jays since they captured the Woodford County Invitational in Versailles, Ky. last month.
On Thursday the Rolla Bulldogs went 3-6 in contested matches and were open in five weight classes.
Rolla freshman Tristan Barr captured one of the most exciting matches of the evening, beating fellow freshman Christian Mayberry 8-6 in overtime at the 126-pound weight class. Barr got a takedown with :06 left in the third period to tie the match 6-6 and force overtime. He then picked up the win on another takedown with :26 remaining in the extra period.
At 120 there was a battle between state-ranked wrestlers as Jefferson City's Corbin Howard, No. 6 at 120 in the latest Missouri Class 4 rankings, pinned Rolla sophomore Carter Daniels, ranked No. 7 in Class 3, in 2:27.
Other Rolla varsity victories on Thursday came from sophomore Tyler Lambeth at 138 and sophomore John Sprow at 152. Sprow is currently No. 7 at 152 in the Class 3 rankings.
Jefferson City also won the junior varsity meet 41-30.
Rolla winners of contested matches in the jayvee meet included Will Crutcher at 132, Zach Benson at 138, Billy Brookshire at 152 and Marquis Reece at 170.
The Bulldogs are slated to compete again on Tuesday at Marshfield in a double-dual meet against Marshfield and Springfield Parkview, starting at 5 p.m.
