  • Newburg High boy cagers third in Richland Tourney

  • Wolves knock off Bourbon, 47-32.

  • The Newburg High School boys' basketball team completed play in the Richland Holiday Tournament by beating Bourbon 47-32 in the third-place game on Saturday.
    Newburg, now 6-2, blew out to a 16-4 lead after one period and led the rest of the way.
    The Newburg Wolves led 28-18 at intermission and went into the fourth period up 35-25.
    Sophomore guard Ryan Ward fired in 18 points to lead Newburg while senior forward Kaleb Robinson had 11 points.
    Dakota Fritz led Bourbon with 11 points.
    Newburg is scheduled to play Crocker in the third-place game of the rescheduled Frisco League tournament on Saturday at Laquey.

    Newburg (47): Ward 18, Bales 4, Black 5, Yelton 9, Robinson 11.
    Bourbon (32): Nilges 3, Smith 2, Sappington 1, Stack 4, A. Fritz 8, J. Fritz 1, Tillett 2, D. Fritz 11.

    Semifinals
    In Friday's semifinals Newburg fell to Eugene 87-50. Eugene led 22-9 after the first period and went into halftime up 45-22. The Wolves trailed 66-39 after three quarters.
    Ward had 17 points while Robinson had 14 points.
    Cody Shaw tallied 24 points while Cameron Massman had 18 points and Tyler Kempker and Travis Kempker each had 16 points for the balanced Eugene attack.

    Newburg (50): Bales 4, Yelton 7, Ward 17, Wofford 4, Robinson 14, McCray 4.
    Eugene (87): Geritz 3, Alderman 1, Shaw 24, Travis Kempker 16, Tyler Kempker 16, Russell 4, Dickerson 6, Massman 18.
