      Eagle Days photo contest


      Amateur photographers will have a chance to show their stuff as part of the Eagle Days Photo Contest planned as part of Eagle Days Jan. 4-5.

      The contest is open to anyone ages 13 and over, and is void where prohibited. No professional photographer entries allowed ― amateurs only. Only one entry is allowed per person.

      To enter, photograph an eagle or eagles in the wild and print out two 4x6 copies of the same photo and mail to:

      Eagle Days c/o Lake of the Ozarks CVB, PO Box 1498, Osage Beach, MO 65065. Mailed entries must be received no later than Jan 3.

      Participants may also drop off two copies of their 4x6 photo at Country Club Hotel & Spa before or during the Lake of the Ozarks Eagle Days event on Jan. 4 and 5. Contest will end at 3 p.m. on Jan. 5. Remember: Only 4x6 copies will be allowed for contest entries.

      Be sure to include name, address, phone number and email address so that contestants may be notified.

      Judging

      Entries will be judged after the 2014 Lake of the Ozarks Eagle Days event and one prize will be awarded for a grand prize and first and second runners up. Entries will be judged by a panel of non-professional photographers from the Master Naturalist Chapter. Entries will be judged on the basis of color, clarity and creativity, capturing wild eagle(s) in their natural environment. No Photoshop or edited photos will be allowed. Eligible photos will have been taken within the last calendar year. Previous entries are not eligible.

      Winners

      Winners will be notified by mail and will be listed on www.lakeoftheozarkseagledays.com. Prizes will be awarded after the judging is completed. Winners will be awarded area dining certificates for First Place - $100, Second Place - $50 and Third Place - $25.

    Eagle Days will return for its 14th year on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 4 and 5, and has expanded from previous years.
    Highlights of the program include live eagles from the World Bird Sanctuary in Valley Park, Mo. Naturalists will be on hand at Osage National Golf Resort to answer questions. The programs will begin on the hour each day of the event beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.
    The Astronomy Club will be available at Willmore Lodge for eagle viewing.
    Eagle watch cruises (weather permitting) will be offered by the Paddlewheeler Tom Sawyer on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m.; and Sunday at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30, 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. for only $5 per person.
    Visitors are urged to bring binoculars and cameras for optimal viewing and photo opportunities of wild eagles at Willmore Lodge and below Bagnell Dam on the Osage River.
    New activities are being added at the Country Club Hotel and at the Osage River Access. At Country Club Hotel, two programs will be given by Dickerson Park Zoo. The first is the Owl Program. The second program is the Day Shift (Hawk), Night Shift (Owl) and Garbage Gal (Turkey Vulture). The shows will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday and 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, rotating every hour. Country Club Hotel & Spa will also have activities for kids, coloring contests, and vendors.
    This event is free (except for small charge for the boat cruise) and open to the public.
    The first live eagle program held in 1999 attracted 651 participants. Last year, more than 3,700 people attended to make it one of the most successful Eagle Days in years past.
    Eagle Days is a collective partnership with the Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, Lake of the Ozarks Convention and Visitor Bureau, Osage National Golf Resort, LakeOfTheOzarksRadio.com, Country Club Hotel & Spa and Missouri Master Naturalist – Lake of the Ozarks Chapter.
