Bulldogs place two in championship match.

The Rolla High School wrestling team finished fifth among a 16-team field at the 40th annual Cape Girardeau Central Tiger Classic, held Friday and Saturday.

Jackson, which had 11 wrestlers in the finals, easily captured the team title with 439 points while Northwest Cedar Hill finished second with 297.5.

Rolla totaled 180 points for its fifth-place finish.

It was the youngsters who led the way for the Bulldogs.

A pair of Rolla wrestlers - a freshman and sophomore - made it to the championship match of their respective weight class.

Bulldog freshman Seth Veatch captured the 160 title by pinning Alex Crocks of Sullivan in 3:22 of the championship match.

Also for RHS sophomore John Sprow fell to Jackson's Clayton Collier 5-2 in the 152 title match.

At 126 another RHS freshman, Tristan Barr, took third place while sophomore Carter Daniels was fourth at 120, freshman Gage Maxwell was fifth at 145 and junior Joe Leach sixth at 113.

Rolla is to compete in the Springfield Parkview Holiday Tournament Friday and Saturday.
