  • Kobe Wands was feeling it Thursday night.
Wands, a 5-10 sophomore guard for the Rolla High School boys' basketball team, hadn't had a breakout offensive performance since being teamed with brother Carter in the Bulldogs' starting backcourt this season.
    Until Thursday.
Kobe Wands went off on Springfield Central. He lit Central up for 21 points in the first half alone and ended with a game-high 33 to pace Rolla to a 74-62 non-conference victory.
Behind K. Wands' scoring RHS, now 4-3, took a 17-11 lead after the first period and went into halftime up 34-28.
Others got in the scoring act in the second half for Rolla, particularly 6-4 junior forward Caleb Copeland, who netted 15 points over the final two periods.
The Bulldogs stretched their lead to 55-38 heading into the fourth period to stay in control.
    K. Wands canned four 3-pointers and hit 13-of-17 free throw attempts. Copeland finished with 17 points.
"It was a nice game against really quick competition," said RHS head coach Mark Miller. "Kobe was taking them off the dribble. In the second half we spread the floor and Kobe was penetrating around.
"Carter only scored a point, but he made a lot of things happen. And (senior forward Aaron) Froehlich really worked hard on the boards. They started shadowing Kobe and Carter brought the ball up the floor, got penetration and that led to good things."
Four Central players scored in double figures, led by 5-11 senior guard Quatrevius Robinson with 15 points, 6-2 junior forward Isaiah Holyfield with 14, 6-1 junior guard Bradley Hardin 11 and 6-1 junior guard D'Angelo Bedell 10.
Central won the junior varsity game 66-53. The jayvee game was tied at 11 after one period and Central led 28-23 at halftime. The Rolla jayvee squad was down 49-35 entering the fourth quarter.
Sophomore Logan Short had 13 points, sophomore Zach Brown 12 and sophomore Ulrik Mjaaseth had 11 for the Rolla jayvee squad, now 5-2.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to play again in the US Bank/RHS Holiday Tournament, to be held next week. In the first round Rolla plays Fulton at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 26 at S&T's Bullman Building.
