  • NEWBURG - Steve Stack from Integrity Engineering was on hand Tuesday night at the monthly Newburg Board of Alderman meeting to give an update on the city's water project.
According to Stack, the "as-built" drawings have been drafted and Integrity is ready to develop a computer model of the current drinking water system in Newburg.
It is a project that has been in front of Newburg's board for some time.
At issue is a number of problems that need to be addressed. Among them is the urgent matter of the infrastructure failure of the city's well house No. 1. Inside, the 4,000-gallon steel contact chamber is tilting, the water main line has shifted under tension and the roof leaks.
Also pressing is the need to update a number of the water mains throughout the city.
Integrity is proposing the installation of several fire hydrants around town as well. In particular, three are needed on Wolf Pride Drive to protect Newburg schools.
Finally, the city's water system is in need of an adequate emergency electric power system where there is at least one permanent emergency generator ready to go at one of the city's well locations.
The estimated engineering cost for this project is $22,000. The city will be reimbursed through a Department of Natural Resource (DNR) grant. An engineering report will be submitted to the DNR by May 30, 2014.
    In other business, the board:
    • Approved the purchase of a new radar gun for the city's police department at a cost of $2,012.50.
    • Approved the donation of a damaged thermal imaging camera to the Doolittle Rural Fire Protection District.
    • Set a special meeting for the board of alderman for Monday, Dec. 16, at 6 p.m. to review paperwork and forms as it relates to a possible application from the Delta Regional Authority (DRA).
