  • RCAS to present ‘Christmas Joy’ concert this weekend

  • The Rolla Choral Arts Society (RCAS) will present its annual Christmas concert called “Christmas Joy,” a celebration of Christmas music for the holiday season, this Saturday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 15, at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 919 E. 10th St. in Rolla.

  • The Rolla Choral Arts Society (RCAS) will present its annual Christmas concert called “Christmas Joy,” a celebration of Christmas music for the holiday season, this Saturday, Dec. 14, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 15, at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 919 E. 10th St. in Rolla.
    Tickets are available in advance at the church office, Kent Jewelry or online at www.rollachoirs.org. All remaining tickets will be for sale one hour before the concert.
    A professionally staffed nursery for infants and small children will be provided. Parents are strongly encouraged to take advantage of this service.   
    Ensembles performing in the concert include the Rolla Community Children’s Choir Young Singers directed by Jane Tummons, the Rolla Community Children’s Choir, Rolla Men of Song and the Rolla Community Choir, under the direction of RCAS Artistic Director Jeff Sandquist.
    The Rolla Community Choir will perform two featured works on this program, opening the concert with, “Fantasia on a Christmas Carol” by Ralph Vaughan Williams, with soloist D.J. Jordan, accompanied by organ, winds, and cello.
    The concert will conclude with a performance of Stephen Chatman’s “Christmas Joy” featuring the Rolla Community Choir, Rolla High School Chamber Choir, accompanied with organ and brass.   
    The RCAS is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization and receives partial funding through a grant from the Missouri Arts Council, a state agency.
    Other funding sources include donations from individuals, corporations and ticket sales for performances. The public can make a tax-deductible contribution to the RCAS.  
    RCAS annually provides close to $2,000 in scholarships to singers of all ages who need financial assistance in order to participate in the choirs of the RCAS.   
    After the “Christmas Joy” concerts, the next big event is the RCAS benefit dinner “Fascinating Rhythm” the Sophisticated Stylings of the Rolla Choral Arts Society, on Feb. 1, 2014 at Matt’s Steakhouse. Tickets for this event are limited and will go on sale at the Christmas concerts. Tickets can also be purchased through the RCAS website: www.rollachoirs.org
