Mary Lee Sands
86, of Rolla

Mary Lee Sands died at home on Wednesday, December 11, 2013. A Rolla native and lifetime resident, she was 86. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church in Rolla on Friday, December 27, 2013. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. at the Church. There will be a private family internment at the Rolla Cemetery.
Mary Lee Evans was born July 4, 1927 to Mary Pauline and Millard B. Evans. She graduated from Rolla High School and worked at Tucker Dairy before her marriage to Don Sands on August 17, 1947. They were married 62 years until his death in 2010.
Don and Mary Lee Sands were longtime members of the First Baptist Church in Rolla.
Real estate was Mary Lee's passion. She started selling properties in the early 1960s and later opened her own agency, Town and County Realtors. She was active in the South Central Missouri Board of Realtors and the Missouri Association of Realtors throughout her 50-year career in the business.
Her competitive spirit was also demonstrated in her skill at bridge. For more than 60 years, Mary Lee played with a weekly group that included her dear friend, Laura Dressel, among others.
She is survived by two children, their spouses, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, Bill and Linda Sands of Rolla, Jean and John Twitty of Springfield, Mo., Matthew and Melissa Sands and their children Davin and Eden Sands of Rolla, Dr. Megan and Scott Taylor and their daughter Attie of Paris, Ky., and Dr. Anne Twitty of Oxford, Miss.
Mary Lee is also survived by her sister, Eve Atkisson, and her husband Ed of Rolla, her brother Everett Evans of Rolla, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Wayne Evans.
The family requests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church in Rolla.
