  • While the ownership of Rolla's Ford Lincoln dealership changed hands earlier this year, one long-standing tradition associated with the car dealer isn't changing.
This year marks the 23rd year that Denny Ford Lincoln, now Sakelaris Ford Lincoln, is collecting cans and non-perishable items for area food banks.
"We are looking to fill 62 truckloads to go to 31 food pantries this season," said Luc Burns who is coordinating effort this year. "It ends up being two trucks for every food bank."
Last year the food drive set an all-time record of 66 truckloads. Burns hopes that the community can make an even higher record this year.
"I've talked to a number of food pantries and they are all low on food," he said.
Over the years, Walmart, Country Mart and Aldi's have been the main donators each year. Burns said that the retailers will usually donate a pallet of food or match donations or allow the dealership to buy supplies at a low price.
Burns said one of the best parts of this effort is when he and the volunteers pull up with the big moving van full of food.
"I like to see the reaction from the food banks," he said. "They are excited and happy."
Individuals and companies can donate money or dry goods at Sakelaris Ford Lincoln, 625 W. Seventh St., Rolla. Donations will be accepted through Tuesday, Dec. 17.  For more information call 573-364-1211 or 573-202-8600.
