  • Mable Inaree Shackleford, of Rolla, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at the age of 89.
She was born on December 10, 1923 in Lane Springs, MO to the late Charles McDowell and Anna (Voss) McDowell.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by four sisters, Nancy, Ellen, Ethel and Pauline; three brothers, William, Cecil and Charles; one son, Robert Charles; a granddaughter, Janell Lambert and a son-in-law, Rodney Lough.
Mable was the consummate “Grandma” or “MaMa” Shack, and never failed to inquire about the grandbabies, and “the bigger ones” as she referred to the adult grandchildren.  As recently as last month, she remembered to send birthday cards.  If you showed her pictures of your family, you had better be ready to hand them over.  A devoted Cardinals fan, she could often be found in her favorite chair watching a game.  Often referred to as “Miss Mable”, she was loved and respected by old and young alike.  I don’t think she was even aware of how beloved she was to so many people.  She will be greatly missed by us all.
She is survived by five sons; Kenneth Woolsey of Freeport, TX, Richard Shackleford and wife Maddie of St. Robert, MO, Gary Shackleford of Denver, CO, Gerald Shackleford of St. Louis, MO and Vernon Shackleford of Rolla; five daughters, Betty Reynolds of Henderson, KY, Donna Lough of St. James, MO, Debbie Funk and husband Bob of Rolla, Sandra McKendrick of Rolla and Brenda Birdsong and special friend  Kenny Forester of Newburg, MO; grandchildren, Teresa Woolsey, Connie Foley, Angie  Koole, Chrissy Woolsey, Rhonda Green, Andrew, Daniel and Kayleigh Lough, Scott and Lindsay McKendrick, Steven and Matthew Birdsong, Christopher Shackleford and Heather Light; a host of great grandchildren including special boys Brody and Cooper Light; and several great great grandchildren.
A funeral service for Mable Shackleford will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 9, 2013 at the Null and Son Funeral Home of Rolla.  Interment will follow in the Rolla City Cemetery.  A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday, December 8 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the family to help defray funeral expenses. Online condolences may be offered at nullandsonfuneralhome.com.
All arrangements are under the direction of the Null and Son Funeral Home of Rolla.
