Here's a list of events happening in and around the Rolla area this weekend, Saturday, Dec. 7, and Sunday, Dec. 8:
Saturday, Dec. 7
Ozark Actors Theatre will host Breakfast with Santa Saturday, Dec. 7, from 8-10 a.m. at the Cedar Street Playhouse, 701 N. Cedar St., Rolla. The event will include a hot cooked breakfast with pancakes, bacon, sausage, eggs and breakfast beverages. Attendees can have their picture taken with Santa before the downtown Rolla Christmas parade. Advance tickets cost $5 and tickets purchased at the door will be $7. All children age 3 and under are free. Tickets can be purchased online at www.ozarkactorstheatre.org, by phone at 573-364-9523, or at the door.
The 2013 St. James Chamber of Commerce Christmas parade has been cancelled.
The 43rd annual Rolla Christmas parade will take place in downtown Rolla Saturday, Dec. 7, at 10 a.m. The theme for the 2013 parade is “Christmas at the Beach.” Floats, vehicles and walking groups can register by calling the Rolla Area Chamber of Commerce office at 573-364-3577. The lineup will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Pine and Rolla streets and will close at 6 a.m. for the staging of the parade.
University of Missouri’s Phelps County Extension will host a hands-on workshop on how to effectively share information Saturday, Dec. 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Mark Twain National Forest headquarters, 401 Fairgrounds Road, in Rolla. There will be a $10 fee to cover workshop materials. The Doolittle Lions Club will host its annual craft show Saturday, Dec. 7, form 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Doolittle Community Center. People may bring their cameras for pictures with Santa. For more information call 573-529-2887 or 573-762-2760.
The Doolittle Newburg Christmas parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 7, at 11:30 a.m. It will start at Cookin’ From Scratch in Doolittle. Santa will be at the Houston House after the parade.
Rolla Elks Lodge will host an arts and crafts event Saturday, Dec. 7, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you are interested in a table space for this event call Janey at 201-1299.
Stop Making Sense Improv will present “An Improv Comedy Christmas - Wrapping Up 2013” Saturday, Dec. 7, at 7:30 p.m. at the Ozark Actors Theatre Cedar Street Playhouse, 701 N. Cedar St. Rolla. Tickets are $12 general admission, $10 for active military personnel and students and are available online at www.ozarkactorstheatre.org or at the box office. Family four-packs for two adults and two children are $40 and are only available by phone at 573-364-9523 or in-person at the box office.
The Doolittle Lions Clubs will hold its first community Christmas tree lighting Saturday, Dec. 7, from 5-8 p.m. at the Doolittle Community Center. There will be live music and free concessions. People may bring a Christmas ornament in memory of a loved one to hang on the tree. For more information, contact Kevin Olsen at 573-529-2887.
Hope Community Outreach’s gospel sing has been cancelled.
An Old Courthouse Christmas will be held after the Rolla Christmas parade Saturday, Dec. 7. Hours will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free popcorn and cider will be served. Kids will be invited to make ornaments. Miss Martha will tell stories. A bake sale will be held to raise money. Proceeds will be used by the Phelps County Historical Society to help preserve the Old Courthouse at 305 W. Third St., which was built just before the Civil War started.
A traditional Christkindl Markt (German Christmas market) will follow the Rolla Christmas parade Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Public House Brewing Co. parking lot. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 600 N. Rolla St., Rolla. The event will feature German food, live music from Rolla Choral Society’s Community Children’s Choir, Jazz Choir and Men of Song, World’s Finest Rolla German Band, Ozark Spirit Cloggers, Artisan Demonstrations, Christmas crafts and more. The Presbyterian Women will hold the annual Cookie Walk and Bake Sale Saturday, Dec. 7, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Some craft items will be included. Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. by the choir who will be raising money for its music fund. All proceeds from the event will be designated for mission.
The Young Riders 4-H Club will host a live nativity Saturday, Dec. 7, from 6-9 p.m. at the Phelps County Fairgrounds in Rolla. Entry is free, but donations are welcome. All proceeds will go for the upkeep of the barns at the fairgrounds. Refreshments will be available.
Noah Coleman Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, will meet
Saturday, Dec. 7 at 11:30 a.m. at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James. Residents and the public are invited to join the chapter meeting where there will be a lunch with the residents in a reserved dinning area. A tour of the facility will follow. For more information call Susan at 364-7923.
The Rhea Saddle Club will have its annual meeting and dinner Saturday, Dec. 7, at 6 p.m. at County Road 5310 off South Highway 63. Attendees should bring a side dish. The club will furnish meat, drinks and bread. The meal will be served at 6 p.m. with the meeting to follow.
Sunday, Dec. 8
Navigators from the Central Missouri Area Agency on Aging (CMAAA) will give a presentation about enrolling in the Missouri health insurance marketplace at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, at the Rolla Public Library located at 900 Pine St. in Rolla. A bake sale and craft bazaar will take place Sunday, Dec. 8, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Rolla Seventh-day Adventist Church on Highway O. Look for signs.
