Ward erupts for 33 points to power Wolves.

Sophomore guard Ryan Ward erupted for 33 points to power the Newburg High School boys' basketball team to a 58-35 non-conference victory over Owensville Tuesday.

The Newburg Wolves held a slim lead throughout. Newburg led 13-11 after the first period and went into halftime up 26-20. The Wolves outscored the Owensville Dutchmen 15-4 in the third period to take a 41-24 bulge into the fourth quarter.

Senior guard Alan Yelton added nine points for the winners. Drew Garner led Owensville with 15 points.

Newburg also won the junior varsity game 42-27.

The fourth-seeded Wolves are scheduled to play fifth-seeded Richland at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the first round of the Frisco League Tournament at Laquey High School.
