Rolla freshman cross country runner Addy Brow not only topped RHS running legend Val Sauer's (now Val Sauer-Crawford) freshman time at the Missouri Class 4 Championships in Jefferson City last weekend...she also bested Val's daughter!
Brow earned all-state honors last Saturday by placing 16th overall in the Class 4 Championships with a time of 19:11.2. That time broke Sauer's long-standing RHS freshman girls' record of 19:14 from 1983.
In addition, in the same race Brow also defeated Val's freshman daughter, Jasmine Crawford. Jasmine finished 18th with a time of 19:11.83 - also topping her mom's freshman mark.
Like Addy, Jasmine earned all-state honors.
Val Crawford, a former Rolla High state champion in both cross country and track who went on to star at Mizzou, now lives in Kansas City. She has three children, with the two older kids - Jasmine and son Jordan - attending Park Hill South High School. Both run cross country at the school.
They are the grandchildren of Pat Sauer, of Rolla, and the late Dr. Harry Sauer.
In addition, Val's sister, Kathy Hrovat, teaches at Wyman Elementary School and her son, Blaine Hrovat, plays football for the Bulldogs and is a sprinter/thrower for the RHS track team.
Along with being one of the most accomplished athletes in Rolla High history, Val Sauer was also one of the sweetest and most humble.
Congratulations, Addy. If you keep passing Val's marks you're going to have some career!
