  • A Rolla man who was seriously hurt after he fell asleep while driving and struck a tree and mailbox south of Rolla Saturday has died.

  • A Rolla man who was seriously hurt after he fell asleep while driving and struck a tree and mailbox south of Rolla Saturday has died.
    The Missouri State Highway Patrol updated an online crash report to show that 69-year-old Charles F. Tankersley, who was injured in the crash, died Sunday at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Dr. Clark Smith pronounced Tankersley dead at 3:37 p.m.
    Tankersley was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox, southbound on Highway O, six miles south of Rolla and a half-mile south of County Road 5280, Saturday around 9:55 a.m. when the patrol stated he fell asleep and the vehicle ran off the road, hitting a mailbox and tree.
    Tankersley was initially taken by ambulance to Phelps County Regional Medical Center before being transferred to the St. Louis hospital. He was wearing a seat belt. The vehicle sustained extensive damage.
    Funeral services for Tankersley are scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 14, at 11 a.m. at James and Gahr Mortuary, Rolla, with interment in Rhea Cemetery in Rolla.
    A visitation is set for Wednesday, Nov. 13, from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. He is survived by two children, Kathy Daniels and husband Terry, of Rolla, and Michele Camenisch and husband James, of Edgar Springs; grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
