Commander Frank E. "Bud" Beechner, Sr., died Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at his home.
He was born October 11, 1934, in Cameron, Missouri to Marvin and Lois Mildred (McCollough) Beechner. He graduated from Kennett, Missouri High School, and the University of Missouri at Columbia.
On June 11, 1955, in Kennett, Missouri, he was united in marriage to Paulette Noltensmeyer Beechner, who survives at the home. He served 20 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1977 as Commander. He served a year's tour in Viet Nam, and duty stations in San Diego, Coronado, San Francisco, CA, and Milwaukee, WI, Hannibal-Quincy, MO-IL, Portsmouth, NH, and Norfolk and Virginia Beach, VA.
After moving to Rolla in 1977, he opened Schrader Stoves and Bud's Tackle Box, retiring from this in 1999. He was former Chairman of the Phelps County Democratic Committee, and a "Yellow Dog" Democrat.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 5 children: Amy Beechner-McCarthy and husband Rory; Alice Beechner Reeves and husband Orval; Angela Beechner Rolufs and husband Mark; Frank Edward "Ed" Beechner; all of Rolla, and Annie Beechner Lovy and husband Scott of Milwaukee, WI.
He is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Benjaman McCarthy and wife Emma; Cara McCarthy; Alanna McCarthy; Amalie McCarthy; Augie Rolufs; Sarah Rolufs; Paulie Lovy; and Kate Lovy. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 3rd, at Christ Episcopal Church, at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Christ Church Episcopal building fund, the Rolla Animal Shelter, or The Community Partnership are welcomed.
