  • For the second consecutive year the Rolla and Joplin high school boys' soccer teams stand atop the Ozark Conference standings together.
The Rolla Bulldogs and Joplin Eagles repeated as OC co-champs when RHS senior Austin Parks scored with three minutes remaining in the first overtime period to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 victory Tuesday at Lions Memorial Field.
    It was RHS Senior Night.
Both Rolla, ranked No. 2 in the current Missouri Class 2 state poll, and Joplin finish the league schedule 8-1.
Senior Hunter Short flicked the ball to Parks for the goal off a long restart from senior Nate Kramme.
It was Short's 31st assist of the season, breaking a tie with Brandon Moore for the Bulldog single-season record.
The game was shifted from Kiwanis Field to the synthetic turf of Lions Memorial Field due to the weather. Also, the varsity game was held first. The jayvee game was not finished due to lightning in the area.
Senior Gage Scurlock recorded his 13th shutout in goal for Rolla, now 23-2 overall.
    Joplin falls to 19-4.
The game ended the regular season for Rolla.
"We played a good game; Joplin hung in there and made things real tough for us," said RHS head coach Mike Howard. "It's nice to win the conference championship, but the real season is about to start.
"There are all sorts of cliches being thrown out by coaches this time of year. For us it's about playing 80 minutes at a time, not looking ahead to the next match and taking care of business early in games and getting some separation from teams. Teams that hang around can cause all sorts of problems, as we learned earlier this season."

    District Next
Next up for the Bulldogs is the Missouri Class 2 District 10 Tournament, to be held next week in Bolivar.
Defending champion Rolla is the top-seeded squad while Jefferson City Helias (16-5) is seeded No. 2, Bolivar (15-5) No. 3, Columbia Battle (6-16) No. 4 and Marshfield (4-18) No. 5.
In first-round action on Monday Battle plays Marshfield at 5 p.m.
In semifinal games on Tuesday Rolla meets the Battle-Marshfield winner at 4:30 p.m. while Helias takes on Bolivar at 6:30 p.m.
The Class 2 District 10 championship game is slated for 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7.
The District 10 champion will meet the District 9 champion on Tuesday, Nov. 12 in sectional play. Schools in District 9 included No. 1 seeded St. Francis Borgia, No. 2 Union, No. 3 Warrenton, No. 4 St. Clair and No. 5 Sullivan.
That sectional survivor moves on to play either the District 11 or District 12 champion on Saturday, Nov. 16 in Class 2 Quarterfinal action.
