Ameren Missouri natural gas customers in the Rolla system, which includes Owensville, Rolla and Salem, are in line to get more than $2 million in reimbursements after a natural gas pipeline company and Ameren reached a settlement agreement approved by the Missouri Public Service Commission.
Ameren Missouri received $3.5 million from MoGas Pipeline as a part of the settlement, which resolves a billing dispute with the natural gas pipeline company for overcharges from 2004 to 2008, according to a news release from Ameren Missouri.
Ameren Missouri will use the entire settlement to offset costs charged to its natural gas customers in the Rolla system as well as customers in Columbia, Cape Girardeau and Wentzville.
Rolla system customers will receive a total of $2.1 million in reimbursements. The remaining $1.4 million will go to all of Ameren Missouri’s gas customers.
The impact of the credit on the total Purchased Gas Adjustment will be about $0.014 per 100 cubic feet for the filed 65-cent per 100 cubic feet rate.
For Rolla system customers, the refund essentially eliminates the $0.2067 per 100 cubic feet incremental Purchased Gas Adjustment surcharge for approximately three years.
Rolla system customers will pay the Purchased Gas Adjustment of 65 cents, which represents a 22 percent decrease from the rate of 83 cents during the 2012-13 heating season.
The Purchased Gas Adjustment reflects the wholesale cost of natural gas, plus the cost of transporting gas to the company’s system.
The average impact per Rolla system residential customer is about $111 annually over the period, where customers were overcharged.
Emma Cruthis, managing executive of gas supply for Ameren Missouri, said the company is pleased with the Public Service Commission’s decision, which provides closure to this matter.
“By settling the case through the commission, we wanted to ensure that overcharges were refunded back to the pockets of our customers. Clearly, the settlement represents a substantial refund credit for our natural gas customers in the Rolla system,” Cruthis said.
An announcement of the refund credit will appear soon on the bills of Rolla system customers only. The monthly refund credit will begin in December.
