Tigers host Bishop DuBourg Friday in district action.

Turnovers and the rushing of Tanner Brown combined to doom the St. James High School football team on Tiger Senior Night Friday night.

The host Tigers lost five fumbles, which led to three Pacific Indian touchdowns. And Brown exploded for 324 rushing yards on 34 attempts and three touchdowns to power Pacific to a 39-22 Ozark Conference victory Friday at the St. James High Field.

It was the FRC finale for both teams. The Tigers fall to 3-6 overall and 1-5 in the conference. Pacific snaps a seven-game losing skid and improves to 2-7 and 1-5.

In the Missouri Class 3 District 2 opener on Friday fourth-seeded St. James will host fifth-seeded Bishop DuBourg at the St. James High Field (7 p.m. kickoff).

Last Friday St. James got off to a solid start, scoring a pair of touchdowns in the first period. However, the turnovers and the inability to contain Brown spurred the Indians to three unanswered touchdowns in the second and third periods to take control.

"We knew going in they have a couple of good backs who run hard," said St. James head coach Greg Harlan. "We struggled to get him on the ground.

"And we turned the ball over five times. The time of possession and field position really made a difference in the game. They had a short field to work with. You can't give a team that many more possessions from there."

St. James opened the scoring at the 10:34 mark of the first period. After a 47-yard kickoff return by freshman Dawson Lynch, senior wideout Jamal Sconiers caught a 23-yard TD pass from Tiger sophomore quarterback Brett Karnes. Karnes followed by hitting Sconiers with a pass for the two-point conversion.

Brown answered for Pacific, scoring on a one-yard TD run. Brown then ran in the conversion to tie the game.

The Tigers retained a 14-8 lead after the first period when Karnes again went to the air and found senior wideout Addison Conway with a eight-yard scoring pass. The two-point conversion attempt failed.

Tiger turnovers then began to take their toll, as Pacific scored the next four TDs.
Brown broke off a 34-yard TD followed by a 29-yard TD run by sophomore Ashton Moore in the second period. Junior quarterback Josh Vondriska ran in the two-point conversion after each score and Pacific led 24-14 at halftime.

Pacific upped its advantage to 32-14 with a touchdown in the third period, as junior running back Dalton Voyles scored on a two-yard TD run. Brown ran in the two-point conversion.

The two teams traded fourth-quarter TDs, as Tiger senior Jesse Hays and Brown each had one-yard runs.

Pacific, which has gone through four starting quarterbacks this season, finished with 437 yards of total offense - 418 of it coming on the ground.

St. James had 265 yards of total offense, as Karnes passed for 147 and Hays rushed for 78.
