The Missouri S&T Lady Miner basketball team was picked to finish third in the Great Lakes Valley Conference's (GLVC) West Division by the league's 16 coaches in its pre-season poll released on Wednesday by the conference office.
The Lady Miners finished last season with a 16-12 mark and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the GLVC Tournament before losing to eventual champion Lewis. S&T returns three starters and eight letter winners off of last year's squad.
The Lady Miners received 90 points and a first place vote and was just a point behind Maryville for second place. Quincy was picked to win the West receiving 112 votes and 11 first place votes. Truman State was picked fourth with 73 points and was followed by Drury (64 points), William Jewell (61 points), Missouri-St. Louis (55 points) and Rockhurst with 22 points. Truman and Drury garnered the final two first place votes in the West.
In the East, Lewis was the top choice amongst the league's coaches receiving 113 points and 11 first place votes. Indianapolis garnered four first place votes and 101 total points to come in second. Southern Indiana was picked third with 89 points and is followed by Wisconsin-Parkside (78 points), Bellarmine (76 points), McKendree (40 points), Saint Joseph's (37 points) and Illinois Springfield (34 points). Parkside received the final first place vote in the East.
S&T opens its 2013-14 season on Friday, November 8 hosting Westminster in a doubleheader with the men beginning at 5:30 p.m.
