  • Rodney Allen “Rocky” Stumo, age 51, of Rolla, passed away Thursday, October 24, 2013 due to injuries sustained in an accident on the Missouri River.
He was born in Mason City, Iowa on April 23, 1962 to Nelson and ElNora (Johnson) Stumo.
On June 9, 2006 he married Shirley Kirscher, who survives.
He was employed by Local 513 Engineering Union for the past twenty-five years.
Rocky fully loved life, family, and his friends. He thoroughly enjoyed music and was never afraid to sing over a jukebox using anything available as an imaginary microphone.
He was of Norwegian decent and proud of every “Ole and Lena” joke he told (again and again.) He and his father were drag racing fans. Rocky enjoyed guns and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He always looked forward to coming home to hunt with his dad, brother-in-law Mark, and nephew Josh, especially when Mark did the cooking. He loved every animal his wife Shirley brought home (most of the time.)
We know up in heaven there are a few special people waiting on him. His grandma, Iola Johnson is shuffling the cards and putting on the coffee pot. His good friend for many years, William Ray Covington Jr. (Willy), has been waiting for sometime to catch up on things and once again enjoy each other’s company. Also awaiting his arrival is his grandfather, Ernest Johnson; grandparents, Lillian and Peter Stumo, and mother-in-law, Elaine Kischer.
Rocky will be greatly missed by his surviving family which includes his wife, Shirley Stumo, of Rolla; his parents, Nelson and ElNora Stumo, of Goodell, IA; stepdaughters, Michelle Hamilton and husband Matt, of Rochester, MN, and Nicole Wiseman, also of Rochester; sisters, Justine Jaspers and husband James, of Carpenter, IA, and Jody Gavin and husband Mark, of Belmond, IA; father-in-law, Melvin Kirscher, of Des Moines, IA; brothers-in-law, Larry Kirscher and wife Eunice and Wayne Kirscher, both of Des Moines; sister-in-law, Margaret Tatman, of Des Moines; nieces, nephews, six great nephews, and extended family Vic and Dora Meyer, of Rolla, and their children Joshua, Travis, and Curtis.
A visitation for the family and friends of Rocky Stumo will be held from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the Null & Son Funeral Home in Rolla.
