An Oklahoma man has died after he accidentally shot himself last weekend, according to a preliminary investigation by the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department and county coroner.
The man identified as 52-year-old Douglas L. Sewell died at Phelps County Regional Medical Center.
According to the sheriff’s department, deputies were dispatched Oct. 18 around 9:24 p.m. to the 31000 block of County Road 6210, southwest of Edgar Springs for a report of shots being fired.
While deputies were in route to the scene, they learned that Sewell had been shot in the abdomen and was being driven to PCRMC by friends.
Phelps County Ambulance District personnel intercepted the vehicle and began treatment on the way to PCRMC, where he later died.
The sheriff’s department and the county coroner conducted an investigation, which is ongoing.
