Lewis drops Miners twice.
For the second day in succession, Lewis University knocked off Missouri S&T's swimming team in a dual meet as the Flyers took a 112-89 decision from the Miners Saturday afternoon.
The Miners had four winning performances on Saturday, two from junior Ethan Goldfarb (for the second day in succession. Goldfarb captured firsts in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:58.21 and later in the 200-yard breaststroke with a mark of 2:07.18.
The other first place finishes came from freshmen, as Jon Glaser won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:47.10 and Colton Krause took first in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:54.96
Aljaz Kerc was second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:45.54 and in the 100-freestyle in 47.40 seconds, as was Keith Sponsler in the 50-freestyle in 21.89 seconds, Goldfarb in the 200-butterfly in 1:58.07, Drew Larkins in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:04.10 and Glaser in the 500-freestyle in 4:54.02
Both of S&T's relays finished second as well, with the 400-yard medley relay quartet of Chris Lohff, Larkins, Chase Davis and Luke Norris recording a time of 3:40.06 and the 400-freestyle team of Glaser, Norris, Kerc and Sponsler finishing in a time of 3:11.13.
Third place performances were recorded by Krause in the 200-freestyle in 1:49.16, Norris in the 50-free in 22.52 seconds, Davis in the 200-IM in 2:01.28, Lohff in the 200-backstroke in 2:08.20, Sponsler in the 500-freestyle in a time of 4:54.97 and Larkins in the 200-breaststroke in 2:15.23.
In a back-and-forth battle all night, Lewis captured the final two events and came away with a 106-95 victory over Missouri S&T in the first of two weekend dual meets Friday night.
The Miners won five events Friday, including two by Ethan Goldfarb, but the Flyers captured three of the top four spots in the 100-yard breaststroke and then beat the Miners in the 800-yard freestyle relay to win the meet.
Goldfarb won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:50.44 and 400-yard individual medley in 4:04.44 as well as finishing second in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:45.99. The Miners also got first place finishes on an individual basis from Aljaz Kerc in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 55.78 seconds and Jon Glaser in the 500-freestyle in 4:43 flat.
S&T also won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:38.12 behind Chris Lohff, Drew Larkins, Colton Krause and Luke Norris.
Glaser took second in the 200-freestyle relay in 1:45.33, as did Kerc in the 50-freestyle in 21.86 seconds, Krause in the 100-butterfly in 51.21 seconds, Keith Sponsler in the 100-freestyle in 47.11 seconds and Larkins in the 100-breaststroke in 1:00.53.
The runner-up finish in the relay came from Glaser, Krause, Kerc and Sponsler, as they finished with a time of 6:59.55.
Third place finishes were posted by Sponsler in the 200-freestyle in 1:45.98, Lohff in the 400-IM in 4:24.88 and 100-backstroke in 56.79 seconds, Chase Davis in the 100-butterfly in 54.12 seconds and Norris in the 100-freestyle in 49.15 seconds.
The Miners' next competition will take place at the Lindenwood Quadrangular meet on Nov. 2 in St. Peters, Mo.
