Wildcats take 29-0 halftime lead, roll to FRC win.

Not even the weather could help the St. James High School football team against a high-powered Union Wildcat attack Friday night.

Union fired out to a 29-0 halftime lead and went on to 43-6 Four Rivers Conference victory Friday at St. James High Field.

It was the fourth straight loss for the Tigers, now 3-5 overall and 1-4 in the conference. Union, second in the FRC standings, improves to 6-2 and 4-1.

The teams had to deal with cold, rainy conditions, as the rain began in the first period and lasted throughout.

The Tiger defense struck first, as junior linebacker Cameron Orlando intercepted a pass from Union quarterback Blake Hulsey and returned it to the Wildcat 31 yardline.

However, St. James couldn't penetrate the Union defense for a score all night long.

Union took the lead for good with 2:37 remaining in the first quarter when Hulsey, junior, connected on the first of his five TD passes - to junior wideout Logan Bellamy.

The Wildcats then took command with a three-touchdown second period, with Hulsey firing two more scoring passes. He hit senior wideout Jacob Carman with a two-yard TD toss to open the second-quarter scoring.

St. James sophomore QB Brett Karnes fired his lone interception of the game on the next possession, picked off by Union's Casey Peth. That led to a 13-yard scoring run by junior running back John Prosser.

A big-gainer ended the first-half scoring, as Hulsey found Bellamy with a 46-yard TD pass.

Hulsey added two more scoring throws in the third quarter - to senior wideout Jake Siddens for five yards and to Carman for 36 yards.

St. James' lone score came with just 1:09 left to play when junior Derek Hale returned a blocked punt 47 yards for the TD.

Karnes was the main offense for the Tigers, rushing for 74 yards on 20 carries while hitting on 12-of-21 passes for 72 yards. St. James regular starting running back, senior Jesse Hays, did not play on offense due to a strained Achilles tendon.
Union had 487 yards of total offense compared to 182 for the Tigers.

Hulsey completed 25-of-33 passes for 308 yards and the five TDs. Bellamy caught six passes for 97 yards while Siddens made seven catches for 68 yards and Carman four for 73.

The Tigers play their conference finale on Friday, hosting Pacific on St. James Senior Night (7 p.m. kickoff).
