Dr. Randall Huss, president of the Mercy Clinic Rolla division, was the guest speaker for the Mercy Clinic's "It's Your Business" luncheon series held Friday at Matt's Steakhouse.
His presentation focused on the role from the Affordable Care Act on small businesses and individuals.
"Overall, the major theme for this act is expanding health insurance coverage to the 48 million uninsured Americans," said Huss. "In many ways this is about covering health care for the working poor."
In a detailed PowerPoint presentation, Huss gave a lot of statistics as they related to who would be served in Missouri by the Affordable Care Act and how they would be served.
He also touched on the effect that the law will have on small businesses.
The doctor said that he regularly works in Mercy's free clinic in Rolla and is stunned at the number of clients who know little about the Affordable Care Act.
With that in mind, he shared that Mercy has received some grant money to promote and maximize the enrollment of uninsured Missourians.
"Look for some upcoming events or programs that relate to this here in the near future," he said.
