Usually when an out-state Missouri high school soccer team plays a St. Louis school, the out-state school holds its breath and hopes for the best.
However, it was like a stroll in Forest Park for the Rolla High School boys' soccer squad this fall.
The Bulldogs finished the regular season 5-0 against St. Louis competition on Saturday by belting MICDS 6-0.
Rolla, ranked No. 2 in the latest Missouri Class 2 state poll, improves to 18-2.
Senior Aaron Froehlich scored the hat trick, with three goals, to lead the Bulldogs while Hunter Short added two goals and Thomas MacCash one.
Logan Houf had two assists while H. Short, Aiden Gelles and Froehlich all had one.
Gage Scurlock recorded his 10th shutout in goal.
"We played real well," said RHS head coach Mike Howard. "MICDS is a well-coached team with some good players; we just played well. That score is a bit deceiving on how good of a squad they have.
"We go to Camdenton and (Springfield) Kickapoo this week and have to win both to set up a game with conference-leading Joplin at home in two weeks for a chance at the conference. We rebounded from the loss at Waynesville with three convincing wins against strong teams. That is what you like to see from a team when dealing with adversity."
Rolla tied with MICDS 2-2 in the junior varsity game. Stewart Meusch and Earl Medrano scored the goals for the Rolla jayvee squad, now 8-2-1.
The Bulldogs are slated to play at Camdenton on Tuesday (5 p.m.).
