A Rolla woman who had to be airlifted to a Columbia hospital after a crash on Highway CC in Phelps County early Wednesday morning has died as a result of injuries she suffered.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) has updated an online crash report to state that 23-year-old Rachel D. Warren, who suffered serious injuries in the one-vehicle crash, was pronounced dead at University Hospital in Columbia Thursday at 4 p.m.
Warren was a passenger in a 1997 Ford Ranger that was traveling east on Highway CC, four miles west of Rolla around 3:10 a.m. Wednesday when it went off the left side of the road, struck an embankment and a tree. The vehicle then overturned.
The driver of the vehicle, Robert L. Garn, 29, of Lecoma, suffered moderate injuries and was initially taken to PCRMC before being airlifted to the same hospital in Columbia.
The patrol stated that neither Warren nor Garn were wearing seat belts. The vehicle was totaled.
This is the 19th traffic fatality reported this year in the patrol's Troop I area, which covers Phelps and five other counties in south central Missouri.
