  • NEWBURG — An investigation of a burglary led to the discovery of a meth lab, resulting in the arrest of two men here.
Michael E. Henderson, 40, and James C. Inman, 37, were arrested after a search of a house in the 200 block of West Third Street uncovered stolen goods and the methamphetamine lab.
Henderson has been charged by the county prosecutor with first-degree burglary, second-degree burglary, felony stealing of a firearm, two counts of stealing property worth more than $500, first-degree drug trafficking and possession of a controlled substance. Bail has been set at $130,000.
Inman has been charged with first-degree burglary, felony stealing of a firearm and felony stealing of property worth more than $500. Bail has been set at $15,000. The series of events began Sunday, Oct. 13, when a resident in the 11000 block of Highway F reported a burglary.
Phelps County sheriff's deputies investigated, finding that a stereo, firearms, chain saws, numerous tools and other items had been stolen.
"Deputies developed suspect information and along with a Newburg police officer responded to the 200 block of West Third Street in Newburg," according to a news announcement from the Phelps County Sheriff's Department.
There they found Henderson and Inman who gave the officers permission to search the residence. It was during that search that an active meth lab was found. The South Central Drug Task Force was called and those officers collected evidence associated with the lab.
Deputies and the Newburg officer also found while searching the residence and outbuildings on the property the firearms, tools and chain saws that had been reported stolen from Highway F. They also found more property from other Phelps County burglaries. Henderson and Inman were arrested at that time and taken to the Phelps County Jail.
