  • S&T men's cross country team takes 3rd at meet

  • With a pair of runners among the top seven in the overall race, Missouri S&T's men's cross country team placed third Saturday at the Jackling Jocks Invitational held at the S&T Golf Course.
    In the women’s race the Lady Miners tied for fourth.
    S&T Men
    Brad Chronister, who has been the Miners' top runner at the team's three previous meets this season, was in and out the lead throughout the eight-kilometer race throughout the morning before finishing second to Webster's Ethan Jeffries in a time of 25:22.
    Danny Deposki was the other Miner to finish among the top seven as he finished in the seventh position in a time of 25:44 as he also ran close to the leaders for a good portion of the race.
    S&T also got a 17th place showing from Justin Brown in a time of 26:23, while Chris Marchman finished 27th overall in 26:53 and Jacob Tayloe was the fifth across the line in 32nd place with a mark of 26:59.
    The Miners' next two finishers were Nathan Boys, who was 36th in 27:04 and Garrett Wood, who finished 38th in 27:05. A total of 80 runners competed in Saturday's men's race.
    Missouri Southern captured the team title as the Lions had all five of their top finishers among the top 12 overall. The individual winner, Jeffries, crossed the finish line in a time of 25:12.
    S&T Women
    Missouri S&T had a pair of individuals place among the top 13 overall Saturday as it finished in a tie for fourth place in the women's competition at the Jackling Jocks Invitational held at the S&T Golf Course.
    Alyson Smith had the highest finish among the Lady Miner competitors in the five-kilometer race which consisted of 77 runners, finishing in eighth place with a time of 18:45. Megan Schulte was the next-highest finisher for S&T, as she placed 13th with a mark of 19:08.
    Brenda Ellis finished in 28th place with a time of 19:55, while Katelyn Fricke was 40th in 20:22 and Crystal Beffa rounded out S&T's top five with a 42nd place finish in 20:23. Allie Wood posted a time of 20:29 and Diane Strong was the next across the finish line in 20:56.
    Southwest Baptist had five of the top seven finishers overall – including individual champion Ashley Wolkomir – to take the team title with 20 points. Drury finished in second place by two points over Missouri Southern, while the Lady Miners tied Mc-Kendree for fourth with 123 points.
    Wolkomir completed the course in a time of 18:07, winning the race by 12 seconds over Missouri Southern's Dora Eastin.
    Missouri S&T's next competition will take place at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships on Oct. 26 in St. Louis.
