The City of Rolla Parks and Recreation Department will host a wrap-up meeting/open house about the future of parks and recreation programs, facilities and operations Tuesday, Oct. 15, from 5:30-7 p.m. at The Centre. This meeting will be styled as an “open house” for all voters. It will include a report of the comments received at the ward/neighborhood meetings. The Phelps County Genealogical Society will hold its monthly meeting Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the new Phelps County Courthouse multi-purpose room at 7 p.m. The topic will be “A Living Stream of Prosperity: the Ste. Genevieve, Iron Mountain and Pilot Knob Plank Road” and the speaker will be Mark Stauter. The meeting is free and open to the public. Read From the Start Program will take place Tuesday, Oct. 15, and Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. both nights at the Rolla Public Library. This is a free parent-only workshop sponsored by the Missouri Humanities Council. Participants can take home seven free books at the end of the program. Child care and refreshments will be provided. Who's New & You will meet at Penelope's Restaurant Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 11:30 a.m. The program will be about the history of the Houston House. The menu will be salisbury steak, choice of baked or mashed potatoes, corn and a roll.

The "Sounds of the Night" program to learn about which creatures make which sounds will take place Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Bray Conservation Area, located 3 miles west of Rolla on Bridge School Road( County Road 7000). Children ages 2-7 should attend from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Another program for all ages will be held from 6–7 p.m. Attendees should wear a Halloween costume. This is a Missouri Department of Conservation Discover Nature Family free program.
