Hunter Short sets RHS career assist mark.
It's safe to say the Rolla High School boys' soccer team has yet to reach the meat of its Ozark Conference schedule.
On Tuesday the Bulldogs posted another OC blowout, blasting Springfield Hillcrest 10-0 at Kiwanis Field.
The Bulldogs, ranked No. 2 in the latest Missouri Class 2 state poll, improve to 15-1 overall and 4-0 in the conference.
Rolla has outscored its OC opponents 29-1 so far this season. The league competition figures to stiffen soon, however, as Rolla next plays at Waynesville today (5 p.m.) followed by a league game at home against Springfield Glendale on Oct. 15.
On Tuesday the Bulldogs scored early and often, with senior forward Aaron Froehlich netting three goals for the hat trick. Also, sophomore Logan Short had two goals and senior Hunter Short, sophomore Thomas MacCash, senior Austin Parks, senior Logan Houf and freshman Mike Jennings all had one.
Hough and H. Short each had two assists while Austin Rabaneau, Froehlich and Jennings all had one.
Hunter Short tied and broke Judson Ball's RHS career assist record on Tuesday. Ball set the mark in 2000 with 53 career assists. Short now has 54.
Senior Gage Scurlock and sophomore Carter Daniels split time in goal for Rolla's seventh shutout in its last nine games and ninth overall.
"It is a great accomplishment for Hunter," RHS head coach Mike Howard said of the assist record. "To set any career record is a huge honor. I have said for four years, Hunter is one of the most underrated players around. When he is running at a defender with the ball something good is about to happen for the Bulldogs.
"As I said earlier in the season, there will be plenty of time to look back on some fun things that are happening right now. We have an opportunity to try and advance further than we did last year and that is all we are concerned with at the moment. Rankings, our record and breaking records are all awesome, but won't mean near as much if we fall short in November."
No junior varsity game was played.
