We learned last week that a longtime member of the Rolla police family has decided that after serving the City of Rolla for more than 17 years he will seek other ventures in the private sector.
Sgt. Jeremy Martens submitted his letter of resignation last week, in order to pursue his construction business full time. Jeremy began his law enforcement career as a campus security officer with the then named University of Missouri–Rolla Police Department.
In July of 1996 Jeremy accepted a position with the Rolla Police Department as a patrol officer. He was promoted to senior patrol officer in 1998, then to corporal in 1999. In 2002 Jeremy was promoted to the rank of sergeant where he has served as shift supervisor, SWAT team leader, traffic supervisor, firearms instructor and many other functions.
Jeremy was also instrumental in establishing the annual Operation Neighborhood Clean-up that is still in place today. We wish him well in his future endeavors and appreciate his 17-plus years of dedication to the Rolla Police Department and to our community. Good luck, Jeremy!
I would like to congratulate Sgt. John Frey on his recent promotion in that the City of Rolla has reposed special trust and confidence in the knowledge, courage, integrity and professional excellence of Cpl. John Frey.
In view of these qualities and his demonstrated leadership potential and dedicated service to the Rolla Police Department, he is therefore promoted to the rank of sergeant, effective Oct. 5. John will be taking over the shift supervisor duties vacated by Sgt. Jeremy Martens due to his designation. John began his law enforcement career in 1994 as a Military Police officer in the U.S. Army. In 1999 John separated from military service and accepted a position as police officer with the then named University of Missouri–Rolla Police Department.
In 2002 John joined the Rolla Police Department as a patrol officer. In 2003 he was promoted to senior patrol officer, then promoted to corporal in 2006. John is a member of the SWAT team where he serves as assistant team leader. Congratulations, John!
On Wednesday of this past week, the Rolla Police Department served as a host agency for area K-9 training. Area departments in attendance were Salem Police Department, Dent County Sheriff’s Office, Houston Police Department and the Rolla police.
The focus of the training included narcotics detection, area search, tracking, officer protection and apprehension. K-9 Street Crimes Cpl. Josh Campbell coordinated the training.
The Rolla Police Department has two K-9’s working on the department. K-9 Chaos and K-9 Rocko. Both K-9’s are assigned to the street crimes unit and receive daily maintenance training to keep them functioning at a high level of proficiency.
I would like to announce that the Rolla Police Department will be holding the annual bicycle and surplus property auction Friday, Oct. 18, at the Rolla Police Department at 1007 N. Elm St. The bidding will begin at 1 p.m. and interested buyers should be there by 12:30 p.m. to obtain a bidding card.

They are as follows: Senior Telecommunicator Tabitha Stanley with 11 years of service, Communications Supervisor Amy King with 10 years of service, Cpl. Frank Hawkins with four years of service, Senior Patrol Officer Steven Gray with four years of service, Secretary Christy Moberly with four years of service and Senior Patrol Officer Jonathan Stack with three years of service.
