  • A Steelville woman, who a law enforcement official says admitted to taking nude photos of her daughter and then sending the photos online to men, faces criminal charges.
    Charlene L. Elkins, 27, has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child in the first degree and promoting a sexual performance by a child, both class C felonies.
    Her bond was set at $25,000, cash only, on each charge. She was incarcerated in the Crawford County Jail.
    According to Crawford County Sheriff Randy E. Martin, Elkins admitted to taking the photos after detectives met with her about a different call.
    On Oct. 1, Crawford County sheriff’s detectives along with investigators with the Missouri Children’s Division of Family Services responded to Steelville Middle School to assist with an investigation of Elkins’ daughter, who was caught with prescription medication given to her by Elkins, the sheriff stated in a news release.
    During the investigation, it was revealed that Elkins had taken nude photos of her daughter and posted them on the Internet.
    Sheriff’s detectives then met with Elkins, who admitted to giving the medicine to her daughter to help her sleep as well as taking nude photos of her daughter and placing them on the Internet, Martin wrote in the news release.
    “When asked how many pictures she (Elkins) had taken, she replied, ‘Too many to count,’ ” the news release stated.
    Elkins also told law enforcement authorities that she would send the nude photos to men she talked to on the Internet and in exchange, the men would send photos and money back.
    Elkins also admitted to allowing men have sexual intercourse with her daughter at their home.
