Members of the Missouri S&T mine rescue gold team, shown here, finished third in the field portion of the Missouri Mine Rescue Contest held Sept. 24-26 at the university's experimental mine. The gold team members included Katie Sewester, Daykin Schnell, Eric Wesel, Dana Resmini, Jenna Freese and Ali Rader. The students competed against seven professional and two student mine rescue teams. The Missouri S&T black team finished seventh in the field portion of the competition and won the in-state trophy for its performance against five Missouri teams in the underground portion of the contest. The competition involves a mine disaster simulation that is set up and monitored by the federal Mine Safety and Health Administration.
