The Piece and Plenty Quilt Guild of Rolla will host the Ozark Festival of Quilts Show Saturday, Oct. 5, from 9 a.m. to 5 a.m. and Sunday, Oct. 6, from noon to 5 p.m. at Rolla Middle School. The event will feature 200-plus quilts by local artists, quilt appraisals, demonstrations, silent auctions, bed turnings, vendors, a boutique, secondhand rose, a mystery exhibit, quilts for sale and the 2013 Hoffman Challenge Exhibit. Broadway Baptist Church in St. James will present Praise Fest 2013 Saturday, Oct. 5, through Sunday, Oct 6. The Harper Family will perform Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. This event is free to the public.
Tee Off On Cancer, a golf tournament to benefit Relay for Life of Phelps County, will take place Saturday, Oct. 5. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. and tee-off will be at 9 a.m. at the Missouri S&T Golf Course. There will be teams of three and the cost is $50 per person. Lunch will be provided. Ozark Highlands Christian Church will host Apple Butter Days, Friday and Saturday, Oct. 4-5. The working process starts at 9 a.m. both days and the apple butter will be ready for sale by 12:30 p.m. Oct. 5. The cost is $11 for a quart, $7 for a pint and $4 for a half pint. The Turkish Student Association at Missouri S&T will host an exclusive private party Saturday, Oct. 5, at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $10 for association members, faculty, staff and S&T students and $15 for all others. The group has rented out Benton Square Mall to celebrate the formation of the modern Turkish nation by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk with a night of music, history, dancing and food. The meeting will last approximately one hour. Blind or visually impaired people as well as anyone interested in learning more about sight disabilities are invited to attend. A Republican picnic will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, from noon to 3 p.m. at Rolla's Lions Club Park on South Highway 63. Local elected officials will speak, with a keynote address provided by Missouri Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder. Food will be available, with donations accepted to help defray expenses.
In recognition of National Fire Prevention Week Oct. 6-12, the public is invited to attend an open house hosted by Rolla Rural Fire Protection District Saturday, Oct. 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1575 E. Lions Club Drive, Rolla. The Phelps County Ambulance Service, Air Vac Life Team and Life Line Helicopter will also participate. A bounce house for children will be available and a mock extrication will be performed. Soda and hot dogs will be served.
Gospel singing will take place at the Community House Prayer Revival Center Saturday, Oct. 5, starting at 3 p.m. The center is located at 16885 County Road 8240 in Rolla. There will be live music, crafts and vendors, raffles, children's games from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., a silent auction and potted mums for sale.
