Mrs. Esther Nelson Short, age 87 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the Adams Street Nursing Center surrounded by her family.
Esther was born October 5, 1925 in Jefferson City, Mo. the daughter of John L. and Ella Campbell Nelson. She was married on September 6, 1969 in Jefferson City, Mo. to Louis A. Short who preceded her in death on March 7, 1985.
A lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area, Esther was a 1944 graduate of Jefferson City High School. She moved to Rolla, Mo. in 1950 and returned to Jefferson City in 2006.
She was employed with the Missouri Division of Employment Security in Jefferson City and Rolla, retiring after forty-four years as a supervisor in 1989.
Esther enjoyed traveling, but most importantly, she loved spending time with her family, especially her sister, brother-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Survivors include: one sister, Mary Ellen Markway and her husband Harold of Jefferson City, Mo.; one nephew, Michael Markway and his wife Marge of Perryville, Mo.; two nieces, Susan Hunt and her husband Ken of Columbia, Mo. and Theresa Kramer and her husband Chuck of Jefferson City, Mo.; seven great nieces and nephews and seven great great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one brother, Harold Nelson.
Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Thursday, October 3, 2013.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am Friday, October 4, 2013 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Tony Rinaldo officiating. Interment will be at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Immaculate Conception Church Building Fund.
