A Rolla man died Saturday afternoon while trying to cross the Gasconade River in Wright County.
Jeremy B. Hinkeymeyer was attempting to cross the river at the Wilbur Allen Memorial Conservation Area when he went underwater and failed to resurface, according the Missouri State Highway Patrol's water patrol division.
Hinkemeyer was pronounced dead at the scene by Wright County Coroner Ben Hurtt. Hinkemeyer was taken to Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home in Mountain Grove.
The patrol report did not list an age for Hinkemeyer.
The report stated the incident occurred around 3:25 p.m. Sept. 28. The Wright County Sheriff's Office, Missouri Department of Conservation agents and other area first responders assisted the patrol at the scene.
