Friend tosses shutout at both Plato and Stoutland.

The Newburg High School softball team swept a Frisco League double-header in shutout fashion on Tuesday.

In Game 1 the Newburg Lady Wolves blanked Plato 12-0. And in the nightcap Newburg whipped Stoutland 12-0.

The Newburg-Stoutland game was rescheduled from an earlier rainout.

Against Plato the Lady Wolves scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning, seven in the third and three in the fourth. The game was stopped after five innings due to the run rule.

Senior pitcher Shelby Friend got the win, pitching the distance and allowing just one hit and striking out 11 of the 17 batters she faced.

Makayla Blattel was 2-for-3 with a double and four RBI for the winners while Shelby Friend was 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and two runs scored; Jordan Baumgardner was 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and two runs scored, and Renate Richardson 2-for-3 with a double and two runs.

In Game 2 Friend tossed another shutout, allowing three hits and fanning seven.

Baumgardner belted a homer, single, three RBI and scored twice for the Lady Wolves while Richardson had a double, single, three RBI and two runs; Friend had two hits, an RBI and a run; Courtney Suschanke had three RBI, and Rena Baumer and Blattel each scored twice.
Newburg improves to 10-2 overall.
