Law enforcement officials were able to persuade an armed elderly man out of a Rolla residence Monday evening with no reports of injuries and not one shot being fired.
According to the Rolla Police Department, police officers were called to the 100 block of Richland Drive, off Pine Tree Road, around 5:02 p.m. for a mental health call.
Police learned that the 91-year-old man was armed with a pistol inside a residence with two other family members.
Communication was established with the two relatives, and after about an hour, the armed man exited the house and was taken into protective custody. He was later transported to Phelps County Regional Medical Center for psychiatric evaluation.
No one was injured as a result of this call and no shots were fired, the RPD stated. The scene was cleared around 6:10 p.m., said Capt. Jason Smith, of the RPD.
The Rolla Police Department thanked the City of Rolla Fire and Rescue, Phelps County Sheriff’s Department, Missouri University of Science and Technology Police Department and the Phelps County Ambulance District for their assistance during this situation.
