  • Zenel Hudson (Bayshore, N.Y./Milford Academy)'s big day for Missouri S&T Saturday in its win over Wisconsin-LaCrosse has earned him this week's Great Lakes Valley Conference's "Offensive Player of the Week" award.
Hudson carried the ball 35 times for a career-high 222 yards and two touchdowns in S&T's 27-14 win over the Eagles, as he posted the second-highest rushing total in a game in both school and conference history. He had 158 of those yards in the second half and scored both touchdowns during the final 30 minutes, as the Miners overcame a 14-3 deficit by outscoring UW-LaCrosse 24-0 after the intermission.
His first touchdown run of two yards midway through the third quarter put the Miners on top in the contest, then he iced the win with an 84-yard scoring run on a third-and-one play with 2:01 remaining in the contest. The 84-yard touchdown run – the longest ever by a Miner at Allgood-Bailey Stadium - was the second-longest rushing play and fifth-longest from scrimmage in GLVC history, as well as the fifth-longest rushing play in Miner history.
The Miners finished Saturday's game with a season-high 287 yards on the ground, while the 222 yards gained by the sophomore running back is the eighth-most to date by any runner in NCAA Division II this season.
Hudson also had a 30-yard pass reception in the game to give him 252 all-purpose yards on the day, the seventh-most in a single game in league history and eighth-most by a Miner in the 120-year history of the program. He is the first Miner to receive the conference's weekly award in the 2013 season.
The Miners, 1-2 on the season, return to action Saturday when they take on Lindenwood in a 6 p.m. contest in St. Charles, Mo.
