A fire that damaged the exterior of an apartment building on 12th Street early Monday morning has been ruled accidental.
According to the City of Rolla Fire and Rescue, fire crews responded to the structure fire near the Missouri University of Science and Technology campus around 3 a.m. Sept. 23.
There were no injuries at this fire.
The majority of the fire damage was confined to the exterior of the building. There was minor smoke and water damage to the interior of the residence.
Capt. Jeff Breen of the fire department, said it appears as if the fire started in the covered porch area. “Right now we’re calling it accidental. The cause is unknown. We’re still investigating it,” Breen said.
Crews were able to knock down the fire quickly.Nine firefighters responded to the scene.
Several Missouri S&T students who lived in the building were displaced. They each have found temporary housing.
