Edna Lucille Armstrong passed away Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Sunrise Senior Living in Chesterfield, Missouri at the age of 81.
On November 26, 1931 Edna was born to John and Ada Macklay in Koshkonong, Missouri, the youngest of six children. She was married to Thomas A. Armstrong in Salem, Arkansas on July 10, 1950. To this union were born three children, six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Edna was a homemaker in Kansas City, then she and tom operated a Sears Catalog Store in 1965 in Salem, Missouri, which they owned and operated for the next 20 years. She continued working retail for several years in Rolla, Missouri at Maurice’s and The Frame Shop.
Edna was devoted to her family and delighted in having them around her. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends, as well as flower gardening, and she was an accomplished seamstress. Edna was baptised at the Marlborough Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas A. Armstrong, her parents, John and Ada Macklay, one brother, Seb Macklay, four sisters, Iva Stewart, Ruth Hunsperger, Eva Thompson and Opal Young, and two nephews, Lynn Staley and Curtis Young.
She is survived by her children, Vickie Greenwood (Wayne) of Peculiar, Missouri, Laurie Filla (Michael) of St. Albans, Missouri, John Armstrong (Barbara) of Bourbon, Missouri, six grandchildren, Matthew Greenwood (Marlo and children Kathryn, Cole and Luke) of Silver Lake, Kansas, Joseph Filla (Anna and son Lukas) Christopher Filla, Lauren Filla, all of St. Louis, Missouri, Megan Armstrong and Jake Armstrong, of Bourbon, Missouri, niece Gayla Young of Myrtle, Missouri, nephews, Wayne Hunsperger, Kenneth Hunsperger of Denver, Colorado, and Gary Staley of Kansas City, Missouri, and brother-in-law Bob Thompson of West Plains, Missouri.
The family is grateful to Sunrise Senior Living staff and volunteers for their compassionate care of Edna.
Funeral services for Edna L. Armstrong will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the Salem Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary with Rev. Norman Cartwright officiating. A Visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service from 11:00 AM until service time at 1:00 PM. Interment will be held in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Salem, Missouri.
