No. 3 Bulldogs fall from unbeaten ranks on Wednesday.

The Rolla High School boys' soccer team fell from the ranks of the unbeaten at the hands of undefeated Jefferson City on Wednesday, as the Jays posted a 2-1 victory.

Rolla, ranked No. 3 in the Missouri Class 2 state poll, falls to 5-1. The Jays improve to 4-0.

Senior forward Aaron Froehlich scored Rolla's lone goal on a breakaway at the 18:22 mark of the first half to take a 1-0 lead.

Jefferson City tied the score at the 13:18 mark of the first half on a penalty kick by senior forward Mason Vonderhaar, who got the ball past RHS keeper Gage Scurlock into the right corner of the net.

The Jays then got the game-winner at the 7:37 mark of the first half when senior midfielder Aaron Crane hit a through-ball to senior all-state forward Marcus Woodruff up the middle for a breakaway goal, his seventh of the season.

Each team had 13 shots.

"I thought we played a very good game," said RHS head coach Mike Howard. "Jefferson City is a strong team; Marcus Woodruff is a handful. I thought Jordan Kaden and the defense did a great job of executing our plan. Sometimes you run into teams that are as good as you or better. If you play hard and smart I really can't ask for much more. We have three more tough games in a row in St. Louis this weekend. Results are nice, but getting better is all I am really concerned with at this point."

It was the second straight win over a state-ranked team for Jefferson City. On Saturday the Jays had defeated the No. 4-ranked team in Class 3, Marquette, 2-1.

Jefferson City also won the junior varsity game 1-0. The Rolla jayvee squad falls to 3-2-1.

Rolla is scheduled to open play in the Parkway Tournament at Ballwin tonight, facing Parkway West at 7 p.m. in a battle of state-ranked squads. Parkway West is ranked No. 2 in Class 2.

On Saturday Rolla is to play Parkway North at noon and Parkway South at 4 p.m.
