New synthetic turf just fine for Bulldogs in Ozark Conference opener.
The new synthetic turf is just fine with the Rolla High School boys' soccer team.
In their first game on the new turf at Lions Memorial Field, the Bulldogs powered past Springfield Parkview 9-1 Tuesday in their Ozark Conference opener.
Rolla, ranked No. 3 in the most recent Missouri Class 2 state poll, improves to 5-0 overall.
The game was moved from Rolla's regular home field – Kiwanis Field at the Bray Sports Complex – to the synthetic turf field due to the wet field conditions.
And RHS took full advantage of the fast rug, as senior forward Aaron Froehlich netted four goals, senior forward Hunter Short added two and sophomore Thomas MacCash, junior Ben Hushaw and senior Logan Houf each had one.
Houf also added four assists while senior Austin Parks had two and H. Short one.
"We now have to go on the road for four very difficult games," said RHS head coach Mike Howard. "It will be a test of our depth for sure. Even though we gave up another soft goal (on Tuesday), we are playing well and starting to do a lot of things right."
Also on Tuesday the Rolla junior varsity team improved to 3-1 by shutting out Parkview 1-0. Steven Stutts scored the long Rolla jayvee goal while Carter Daniels record the shutout in goal.
The Bulldogs were scheduled to play undefeated Jefferson City High last night on the road, and on Friday and Saturday Rolla competes in the Parkway Tournament in Ballwin, near St. Louis.
RHS opens tournament play at 7 p.m. Friday against Parkway West, ranked No. 2 in Class 2. On Saturday Rolla plays Parkway North at noon and Parkway South at 4 p.m. All of Rolla's games will be played at Parkway West.
