A Jerome man faces criminal charges after he admitted to stealing many items, including a firearm, from a Phelps County home earlier this year.
According to the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department, 26-year-old James R. Hufendick was arrested Saturday night, Sept. 14, and has been charged with burglary in the first degree and felony stealing of a firearm.
The sheriff’s department reported that on June 12, 2013, deputies were dispatched to the 21000 block of State Route D for a reported burglary.
During the investigation, it was discovered that someone forced entry into a residence and a firearm, among other items, were stolen.
While following up on this incident as well as another reported burglary in the Jerome area, sheriff’s deputies developed suspect information, which led them to Hufendick.
When deputies interviewed Huffendick, he admitted to burglarizing the residence.
Huffendick’s bond was set at $100,000.
