In this fast-paced world of today where tweets and texts are routine, it sometimes seems that the well written novel is and old hat.
"Not so,” says Marilyn Smallwood Schwartze of Plaza Fashions, who is hosting a local writers and book signing reception at her business on Saturday, September 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
As Marilyn states," this was the perfect way to kick off her month long celebration of her 30th anniversary in business."
Reading novels is her favorite past time and as she commented, "I had no idea that we had a group of local writers that meets regularly to critique and support each other in their writing process."
The featured writers include Loretta Gorrell, Rose Malone, Leslie Yoakum, K.S. Wuertz, Carlena Biggs, and Danielle Norris.
Gorrell worked as a sales associate at Plaza Fashions before retiring to write novels.
Her first book, “Secrets in the Sky,” is a mystery about a young woman who uncovers a white slavery operation.
Her second book is now being published.
Malone is a former teacher and radio host who writes about life in Missouri. She has published a series of six novels with another due out in January.
Yoakum grew up in Kansas City but has called the Ozarks home for the past 19 years. She has authored and illustrated two children's picture books, “Martha’s Magic Chopsticks” and Mina Dances for Joy.”
Wuertz writes for children, teens and adults. She is a freelance writer best known for “Life at Mimosa Lake.”
Biggs now devotes her time to Carlena Sue's Creations. She has published two books of a trilogy “From Shame to Honor” and is currently finishing the third book in that series.
Norris is another self-taught artist and book illustrator, best known for her work, “The Crooked-Legged Foal.”
Stop in Saturday and meet the authors at Plaza Fashions and Merle Norman Cosmetics at 115 West Springfield in downtown St. James.
