  • It was quite a season-opener for the Rolla High School cross country team.
The RHS runners won all four high school divisions and had three of the four race winners on Monday at the Lebanon Invitational.
Rolla won the boys' varsity 12-school race with 42 points followed by Logan-Rogersville second at 70 and Springfield Parkview third at 74.
In the girls' varsity race the Lady Bulldogs easily won with 29 points, followed by Waynesville at No. 2 with 76 and host Lebanon third with 88.
In the boys' junior varsity race Rolla won with 26 points while Rogersville was second with 66 and Parkview third with 77.
And in the girls' jayvee race Rolla won with 25 points while Willard was second with 53 and Waynesville third with 55.
Individually Rolla freshman Addy Brow was the girls' varsity medalist with a time of 20:02 over the 5,000-meter course. Other Lady Bulldog top-10 finishes came from sophomore Sophia Holmes fourth at 20:58, senior Madison Collier fifth at 21:10 and senior Shannon McCaul eighth at 21:38.
In the boys' varsity race Rolla's sophomore Dalton Rabenau and junior James Kosbar finished 2-3 overall, Rabenau with a time of 16:59 and Kosbar 17:04. The Bulldogs' junior Liam Jennings was ninth at 17:51.
Other Rolla medalists were sophomore Nate Potrafka in the boys' jayvee race at 18:27 and sophomore Jazmyn Youngblood in the girls' jayvee race at 22:47.
"I was really pleased with our performances in every race," said RHS coach Don Knapp. "The runners challenged themselves to follow a good race plan, start well, push the pace and move well during the race and finish strong. Their overall race results speak for themselves. So many Rolla kids getting race medals and running these times are an indication of how much work these kids did during the past five weeks of preparation and in many cases over the summer months. It was a very good start to the season.
"Our varsity boys ran very well against some conference schools and state meet level runners. Dalton, James and Liam all stayed near the front, with Kevin (Gao), Will (Crutcher), Chandler (Gruener) and Ben (Hushaw) all running solid races to get a low team score. Our girls packed together the first two miles, with all five scorers within 20 seconds of each other. Addy Brow was in third place quite a long ways behind the lead girl with just over 800 meters left in the race and put in another gear and caught the leader with 300 to go and ran a great time."
Rolla is slated to compete in the Hazelwood Central Invitational on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m.
