  • A fundraiser will be held next weekend for a boater from Rolla who was injured after being shocked while trying to help people during the August floods in Maries County.
Darrell Davis, a Rolla resident and National Guard member, was shocked in the head when the boat he was in drifted into an energized power line, which got pinned under the boat's steering column. The incident occurred Aug. 7 at the Nagagomi Lodge.
Davis has since undergone four major surgeries and several medical procedures. He spent nearly a month in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) burn unit at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis and later was transferred to Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital in Chesterfield.
To help Davis with his medical bills, which are not being covered by Veterans' Affairs (VA), a fundraiser will be held Sunday, Sept. 15, starting at 11 a.m. at Somewhere Else Bar and Grill, located at 195 Doolittle Outer Road.
There will be a silent auction, a karaoke contest, 50/50 drawings, food and more. Donations for the silent auction are still needed.
The public is invited to attend and support Davis as he recovers.
Donations can also be made at Town and Country Bank by letting bank employees know they are donations for Darrell Davis.
Donations can also be made to any member of Darrell's support team.
Davis's friend, Jim Jackson, and Davis's daughter, Emily, were both in the boat with Davis assisting individuals affected by the flooding.
Jackson described Davis as "a very experienced boater and one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet."
