S&T cross country teams finish Bradley event.
Missouri S&T's men's cross country team opened its 2013 season Friday with a second place finish at the Bradley Intercollegiate meet and two individual finishers among the top 10 overall.
S&T got a third place finish from Brad Chronister to pace its efforts, as he completed the four-mile course in a time of 20:21. Danny Deposki also finished in the top 10 by placing eighth in 20:45; the top two Miner runners were the only competitors outside of runners from meet winner Lewis University to finish among the top 10 on an individual basis.
The Miners' next five runners all crossed the finish line in order, beginning with Travis Connelly in 14th place in a time of 21:10.
Chris Marchman was 15th in 21:14, while Garrett Wood came in 16th in 21:24, Nathan Boys in 17th in 21:29 and Justin Brown in 18th place in 21:33.
Missouri S&T finished with a total of 47 point to easily finish in second place among the 10 schools competing in the college division portion of the race. Lewis ended up with 18 points as Chronister broke up the possibility of a perfect score for the Flyers with his third place showing.
Thanks to a trio of finishers among the top nine in the meet, Missouri S&T's women's cross country team opened its 2013 season Friday with a second place finish at the Bradley Intercollegiate meet.
Freshman Megan Schulte led the Lady Miner contingent by finishing third overall in a time of 18:15 over the three-mile course. Alyson Smith placed seventh overall in a time of 19:07, while Brenda Ellis (Olathe, Kan./Olathe East) was ninth in 19:12.
Two additional freshmen completed S&T's top five on Friday, as Crystal Beffa finished 13th in 19:35 and Katelyn Fricke came in 18th place with a time of 19:52. Madalyn Elliott was 24th in 20:01 and Allie Wood finished 26th in 20:03.
The Lady Miners scored 42 points in the meet to finish second to Augustana (Ill.), who had four of the top five finishers in the meet including individual champion Becca Sund, who ran the course in 17:57.
Missouri S&T's next competition will take place Sept. 21 when it runs at the Southern Stampede at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin.
