The Rolla High School softball team saw its 30-game Ozark Conference winning streak come to a close in its 2013 league opener on Thursday, as the Lady Bulldogs fell to Springfield Parkview 10-6 at the RHS Field.
It was the first loss of the season for Rolla, now 4-1 overall.
Rolla has dominated the OC in recent years, winning the previous four league titles, including going undefeated the last three seasons.
However, mistakes proved costly for the Lady Bulldogs Thursday.
"We just played a terrible game," said RHS head coach Tim Dunn. "We gave up five runs in the first inning, which made the rest of the game an uphill climb. We weren't ready to play and it showed in every aspect of the game.
"We will regroup, make some necessary changes and work on improving our approach to game action."
Senior Jade DeShurley was the starting and losing pitcher for Rolla, working 3 2/3 innings and allowing six runs (four earned) on two hits, two walks and five hit batters. She was relieved by Skylar Turner, who gave up four runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks.
Rolla outhit Parkview 11-7 and committed three errors. The Parkview Lady Vikings plated five runs in the first inning and led the rest of the way.
Maegan Ray was 3-for-4 with a triple, double and two runs scored for RHS while DeShurley was 3-for-4 with a stolen base, RBI and run scored; Anna Feeler was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and run scored; Kayla Reed had a hit, run and stolen base; Meredith Sowers had a hit and scored a run, and Brooke Maxwell had a hit.
Rolla blasted Parkview in the junior varsity game 21-2. Sowers was the winning jayvee pitcher.
The Lady Bulldogs were scheduled to host Union Friday (Sept. 5) in non-conference play and then travel to Springfield Glendale for conference action on Monday (4:30 p.m.).
